Final Event: 4th Urban Logistics Innovation Day
On 18 June 2026, the Final Event of both GREEN-LOG and DECARBOMILE projects took take place during the 4th edition of Urban Logistics Innovation Day, organised by POLIS and ALICE-ETP in Brussels.
This event brought together over 100 urban logistics practitioners, researchers, and policymakers who discussed innovative solutions that help cities and businesses achieve their sustainability goals.
Focus points of the discussion
Both of the projects showcased insights from their Use Case cities around Europe who employed diverse zero-emission solutions to their urban logistics and last-mile delivery systems. All partners also shared key learnings in order to be able to develop policy pieces and guidelines for potential followers such as cities, operators, and policymakers.
The discussions were rich thanks to a wide participation of partners focusing on different aspects of urban logistics and mobility that are cooperating under the CIVITAS initiative. We could therefore hear insightful interventions by partners from DISCO Project, GreenTurn Project, or CodeZERO Project as well.
The main discussions focused on digital tools integration, applied pilot experiences around Europe, consumer-centred approaches, as well as scalability, replicability, and relevant policy pathways forward.
On DECARBOMILE’s behalf, both technical partners and representatives of Living Labs intervened in the different sessions. While Pauline Buosi (IT) co-introduced the event and our project, and moderated the session on ‘Flexilbe use of urban space, optimisation, and sharing’, Javi Esquillor (CAPIT) intervened in the opening plenary discussing the DECARBOMILE’s data space system – an orchestration platform for collaborative logistics.
Laura Alquezar Rodriguez then presented the urban consolidation centres and other smart solutions that have been implemented in La Rioja’s capital Logroño. Similarly, Sophronius Schalies from Logistics Initiative Hamburg showed what lessons on upscaling and replicability we can draw from the Hamburg Living Lab.
In the session on ‘Real-time and connected tools for last-mile delivery planning’, Ivo Fumagalli (GGI) and Fabien Léhudé (IMT) showcased the Decision support system tool, that has been deployed, for example, in Nantes.
Finally, in the closing plenary session, Katharina Beck (TUHH) discussed policy solutions that could be drawn on the European level based on the experience from our project on last-mile urban logistics.
Paths forward
European projects must indeed focus on scaling up potential of the solutions, fostering viable business models, and integrating logistics into urban planning and mobility strategies.
That is also why DECARBOMILE develop a Project Blueprint as a practical resource for public authorities, logistics operators, researchers, and innovation practitioners. This document shall serve as a practical guide for organisations seeking to develop collaborative and replicable urban logistics projects.
