Logroño represents in DECARBOMILE the Southern European context, with its 150.211 inhabitants, which correspond to 80% of the population living around 1km from the city centre. As main transport and access routes there are two roads that connect with the main industrial areas of the municipality, located about 3 km from the centre. The distribution of goods in Logroño is based on retail distribution, which uses the most urban roads in the municipality, and on wholesale distribution, which uses the main access roads to the industrial areas of the municipality. In the heart of Logroño there is a historic centre that constitutes an important tourist and commercial focus. It concentrates a large number of shops, tapas bars and restaurants, and is also crossed by the Camino de Santiago, which means that pedestrians are constantly on the streets. This district has access control systems for cars and lorries, reinforced by traffic cameras, and with access restrictions during specific times of the day.
Three use cases are planned in the Logroño Living Lab, aiming at improving the living conditions in the city and in particular to alleviate the crowded streets of the historical centre.
For that, the first use case is implementing on a public parking, near the restricted area of the city centre, a nano logistic hub. This hub will be at first operated by DHL, for them to switch from traditional trucks to cargo-bikes to deliver in the city centre. Additionally, some cargo-bikes provided by the municipal mobility platform will be parked in the hub and available for any local shops or merchants that would like to test (for free) this method to deliver goods in the city. In the future, this hub could become a consolidation point for different logistic operators.
